Growing up in Litvínov

Eva Herzigová was born in Litvínov, then in Czechoslovakia, in 1973. Raised by an electrician father and secretary mother, she was discovered by a Paris agent at a Prague competition at sixteen. This coincided with the political changes of 1989 in Central and Eastern Europe. She later reflected that her path would have been different without the opening of borders. Her emergence involved historical changes in mobility and international interest as well as individual talent.[1][2]

A newcomer moves to Paris

Herzigová moved to Paris and developed international photographic and runway experience. A newcomer discovered in Czech fashion entered Western European agency, editorial and design networks. The move involved learning languages, working rhythms and ways of presenting clothes as well as changing location. Recognition followed in major French and Italian publications. Her career belongs to the increasing visibility of Eastern European models, although geographical origin cannot fully explain an individual’s expressive ability.[1][2]

The advertising breakthrough of 1994

Herzigová gained international recognition as the face of Wonderbra’s 1994 “Hello Boys” campaign. The image reached people through urban billboards as well as magazines. It became a powerful example of a model’s name being associated with one product. Its fame has repeatedly framed accounts of her career, but it cannot represent the full extent of her abilities or interests. It was a decisive turning point within a much broader body of work.[2][3]

A different range on the runway

Herzigová worked in shows and campaigns for Chanel, Versace and Dolce & Gabbana. French Vogue’s runway retrospective, including Chanel in 1995, reveals expressions different from her best-known advertisement. Structured couture and restrained ready-to-wear required different movement. A model remembered through one campaign was continually moving between design languages in practice. Records of individual shows document the work and accumulated technique involved in presenting a house’s clothes.[4][5]

Film and a different screen experience

Herzigová also explored work outside fashion on screen. Les Anges gardiens in 1995 and Just for the Time Being in 2000 are examples of an expansion into acting. Communicating one moment in a still image differs from sustaining continuity across film scenes. These credits show both the use of an established model’s image in another medium and the acquisition of different skills. Film appearances did not mark the end of her ongoing editorial and runway career.[5]

An experienced voice on creativity

In a 2025 Vogue Czechoslovakia interview, Herzigová described modeling through transformation and photography rather than simply walking for famous brands. She emphasized the feelings and expression images can communicate. At that year’s Vogue Summit she discussed international success and regional roots alongside a younger Czech designer. Later professional experience was becoming material for conversation with new creators. Her comments also raise questions about time for creativity and individuality within an accelerating industry.[6][7]

A history longer than one advertisement

Herzigová appeared in the 2024 Victoria’s Secret show and continued public interviews and fashion events in 2025. Her 1990s image is therefore far from the only contemporary record of her work. The career connects mobility during political change, mass advertising, sustained runway practice and her own interpretation of photography and creativity. This archive uses documented professional activity in 2025 as later evidence, examining continuity and change without predicting subsequent contracts or appearances.[6][8]
