Origins

Born in Hamburg in 1966 and raised in Sweden, Patitz entered the 1983 Elite competition in Stockholm. Conflicting day-and-month records make the birth year the safer level of precision.[1][2]

Entry into fashion

Her Paris career developed gradually. Work with Lindbergh, Herb Ritts and Patrick Demarchelier established a presence capable of holding attention within many photographic styles.[1][3]

Creative partnership

The 1988 White Shirts photograph in Malibu emphasized personality and group rapport. Its apparent naturalness was itself a collaborative photographic construction. The apparent informality was itself a construction shared by photographer and models. Simpler clothing and makeup allowed differences in expression and character to become more visible.[1][3]

Defining work

The January 1990 British Vogue cover and Freedom! ’90 video expanded her public recognition. Her distinctive screen presence remained visible within the celebrated group.[1][3]

Changing direction

Based in California, she maintained interests in nature and animals while continuing selected modeling work. Lower publicity did not mean the absence of professional activity. Less frequent public exposure than some colleagues does not mean an absence of professional activity. Later features and interviews reflected her chosen surroundings.[1][3]

Later career

Later runway records include Hermès in 2009 and Etro in February 2019. The latter is a clearly documented late-career appearance, rather than a reason to make unsupported exhaustive claims.[2][4][5]

Legacy

She died on January 11, 2023. Colleagues’ tributes and photographic retrospectives preserve an individual professional identity within the collective history of the supermodels. Looking at actual covers, editorials and shows alongside tributes restores the working model to the collective history. Her distinctive expression remains visible within the better-known group images.[1][3][6]
