Early life
Gigi Hadid was born in Los Angeles in 1995 and grew up in California. Her mother Yolanda had modeled, and she appeared in Guess children’s advertising. Childhood was not a continuous professional modeling career, however. Competitive riding and volleyball occupied her school years, including captaining Malibu High’s volleyball team. Fashion connections coexisted with sports routines that she later linked to discipline.[1][2]

Entering the profession
Gigi Hadid moved to New York after graduating in 2013 and began studying at the New School. Signing with IMG that year created scheduling conflicts, and modeling eventually took priority. Childhood advertisements did not remove the need for adult-market test shoots and castings. Relocation meant negotiating academic and professional paths as international fashion work replaced earlier sporting routines.[1][2]
The breakthrough
Gigi Hadid expanded through magazines, runways and advertising in the mid-2010s. She first walked Victoria’s Secret in 2015 and returned the following year. Broadcast spectacle and editorial photography reached different audiences, jointly enlarging her profile. Her family’s visibility formed part of the context, but actual assignments remain necessary evidence when documenting the professional career.[2][3]

Defining work
Gigi Hadid’s Tommy Hilfiger collaboration expanded her role from presenting clothes to participating in product creation. A United Nations fashion publication records industry recognition of that 2016 design debut. She also cohosted the American Music Awards that year. Design collaboration and hosting required different skills, creating overlapping professional roles rather than one narrowly defined occupation.[3][6]

Expanding the practice
Gigi Hadid launched the cashmere-centered Guest in Residence in 2022. At Vogue’s Forces of Fashion she discussed uncertainty and learning as a founder. Previous collaborations did not remove the new responsibilities of directing a continuing company and product line. The venture marked a move beyond a temporary named collection while modeling continued alongside business work.[3][4]

Latest documented work
Gigi Hadid cohosted Netflix’s Next in Fashion with Tan France in 2023, translating runway and product experience for a television audience. A September 2026 Vogue France cover interview addressed her continuing work and brand. It documents an active model and founder as well as a career retrospective; unannounced future projects and business scale are not inferred here.[3][5]
A place in fashion history
Gigi Hadid stands where digital-era visibility meets established fashion structures. A full account includes family access, agency representation, assignments, collaborations and a company. Childhood advertising did not automatically complete the later career, while family resources were also relevant. Chronology allows a concrete comparison of how modeling expanded toward products and television after the 2010s.[1][2][3][4]
