A choice made by one button

A jacket that changes when fastened differently gives its wearer a role in design. The slash-and-button details of spring/summer 2026 introduce Eudon Choi history through this practical proposition. Referencing Georgia O’Keeffe’s New Mexico home and Pueblo Revival architecture, the collection contrasted crisp cotton with fluid satin and utility pieces with translucent fabric. This architectural cutting need not mean enclosing the body rigidly. Like a room accepting different arrangements, a garment can preserve alternatives within a composed exterior. The central question is how precise construction remains open to individual life.

From Seoul menswear to London

He moved from Daegu to Seoul to enter Yonsei University in 1994, studying clothing and textiles at undergraduate and postgraduate level. He recalled initial family resistance, followed by his father's support. A job offer from Handsome in 1999 began a period of Korean menswear practice before his move to London. Eudon Choi history subsequently includes an RCA womenswear MA completed in 2006 and work at AllSaints and Twenty8Twelve. Transferring this training does not simply mean shrinking a man's jacket: collars, pockets and sleeves acquire different relationships with a wearer. Familiar components can support unfamiliar proportions, preserving practical knowledge while expanding its possibilities.

Sustaining a label

He established the London label in 2009 and received Fashion Scout and BFC/ELLE support in 2010. The Samsung Fashion and Design Fund's 2013 profile records another stage of recognition. Eudon Choi history is also an account of maintaining a small business. In a 2021 interview, he described wholesale and a Paris showroom as important to expansion, favouring flexibility over the costs of a dedicated store at that time. Making a convincing sample and sustaining its production are connected but distinct tasks. His relationship with British and Korean markets developed through that practical negotiation rather than through a single national style.

Fastenings and metal lines

Autumn/winter 2017 took Adolf Loos as a reference. Familiar shirts, trousers and outerwear acquired displaced fastenings and moving straps. In Eudon Choi history, architectural cutting becomes legible through these apparently small devices: a fastening also draws a line on a surface. Spring/summer 2018 then turned towards Eileen Gray's E-1027 house. This jewellery collaboration with Chrishabana drew on its furniture's metal-and-glass language, alongside continuing bags with Decke. This jewellery collaboration connected tiny linear objects with the larger planes of clothing. It helped create the collection's sense of space around a person rather than merely adding decoration to finished looks.

Two houses, different clothes

The stripes, checks and asymmetric necklines of spring/summer 2018 translated a coastal house into clothing rather than printing its view onto fabric. Comparing that season with spring/summer 2026 reveals a distinction within Eudon Choi history: Gray's geometry and O’Keeffe's desert textures prompt different decisions. A bias-cut camisole dress in the latter collection places cloth diagonally to its grain, encouraging it to fall around the body. Against crisp cotton, it shows that line and softness result from construction as well as taste. These are clothes concerned with experiencing space, not miniature replicas of buildings.

Volume and ways of wearing

Resort 2027 extended the dialogue to London's Barbican and cinema. A dropped-waist Mikado halterneck dress with a puffed lower section offered another way to establish volume. In Eudon Choi history, it is a useful counterpart to jackets with alternative button positions. One redistributes fullness through fabric and a lowered waist; the other changes through fastening. These ways of wearing are therefore part of the work rather than an afterthought. A recognisable tailored component can coexist with a less predictable outline, allowing the same wardrobe to accommodate both structure and movement.

Surfaces changed by time

Presented in September 2026, spring/summer 2027 drew on weathered forms encountered in Athens and Milos. Its asymmetric white opening dress suggested carved volume while remaining contemporary clothing. Eudon Choi history continues to use old places, images and films as material for structural decisions rather than as a catalogue of nostalgic decorations. These ways of wearing, bodily space and texture provide a useful route through the archive. Quiet clothing can contain considerable complexity: a shifted button, the width of trousers or the direction of a fabric's grain changes how it is experienced. The work invites a slower examination of these details.
