Southern California beginnings
Jason Lewis was born in Newport Beach in 1971 and grew up in Los Alamitos. After college he entered modeling in Europe, with Paris and Milan central to his early career. Although many viewers know him as an actor, advertising and magazines first established his public image. Modeling and acting represent distinct stages of that career.[1]

Establishing a modeling career
Work for Guess, Tommy Hilfiger and Hugo Boss established Lewis in fashion. A substantial GQ feature in 1996 reflected that visibility. Advertising gave him extensive camera experience, but recognition as a model did not by itself account for his subsequent acting work. A photographed character and a sustained screen performance require different forms of preparation.[1][2]
Moving into television
In 1997 Lewis played Rob Andrews in Beverly Hills, 90210. The role predates the character for which he became best known and marks an early stage in his screen career. Television added dialogue and sustained behavior to the visual demands of modeling. Starting his biography with his later hit would overlook that transition.[1][2]

The defining television role
Lewis gained international recognition as Smith Jerrod in Sex and the City from 2003, opposite Kim Cattrall’s Samantha. He reprised the role in both feature films. The fictional character’s relationship with public image invites comparison with modeling, but should not be mistaken for Lewis’s personal character. The role made his face recognizable well beyond fashion.[1][2]

Work beyond the signature role
His later credits include Charmed, Brothers & Sisters and Midnight, Texas, moving between family drama and supernatural storytelling. In 2022 he also appeared on Dancing with the Stars. These projects complicate the idea that his working life consisted only of one successful character followed by an absence.[1][3]
A turn toward writing
In a 2026 interview Lewis described living in Costa Rica and writing fantasy fiction. Reports outlined three interconnected trilogies set in different eras of one world. This was a creative plan, not evidence that nine books had already been published. Writing extends his work from interpreting other people’s material toward constructing a narrative of his own.[3][4]
Reading the career as a whole
Lewis’s career connects European advertising, American television, film and writing, but these should not be measured as identical achievements. Campaigns, recurring characters and an unpublished manuscript are different kinds of work. The documented 2026 update concerns writing; later assessments should follow released work and attributable statements rather than assume a future publication outcome.[3][4]
