Julianne Moore studied theatre at Boston University and worked in television before her film career expanded in the 1990s. Short Cuts and Safe were important early roles. She later won the Academy Award for Still Alice. Her recurring work with Todd Haynes includes Safe, Far from Heaven and May December, allowing a career to be read through sustained collaboration rather than isolated awards.
For a fashion archive, Far from Heaven and A Single Man provide particularly useful starting points. Clothing belongs to the construction of their period settings and social worlds. The analytical task is to notice the relationship between a character’s appearance and the scene around her: color, surface and form can be considered alongside gesture and framing.
