Dua Lipa released her self-titled debut album in 2017, followed by the disco-oriented Future Nostalgia in 2020. Her work offers a strong connection between dance music and the visual demands of performance: clothes need to register under stage lighting while allowing the performer to move through choreography.

In September 2021, she walked in Versace’s spring/summer 2022 show in Milan, whose soundtrack included songs from Future Nostalgia. This was a direct meeting of a musician’s recorded work and a fashion house’s runway presentation. Reading the event alongside her concert photographs makes it possible to compare the controlled walk of a runway with the larger gestures of a concert, without assuming that both require the same kind of garment.
